The Spirit of Wenatchee’s Miss Veedol
The replica Miss Veedol celebrates the world’s first nonstop flight across the Pacific Ocean, a stunning but largely-forgotten historic event. Built by volunteer Wenatchee EAA members and aviation enthusiasts between 1996 and 2003, the red-orange plane is a replica of the Bellanca CH-400 Special Model J that Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon, Jr. flew from Misawa, Japan to Wenatchee, Washington in 1931.
Each year, Spirit of Wenatchee volunteers fly the plane for special events around the region and to air shows throughout the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada. Our goal is to rekindle recognition of ace pilot Pangborn and that historic 1931 flight. Miss Veedol has become a good-will icon that unites Wenatchee and East Wenatchee with their sister city of Misawa.
We sincerely appreciate the support of Douglas County, City of East Wenatchee, City of Wenatchee, Chelan-Douglas Regional Port Authority, Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation of North Central Washington, East Wenatchee Rotary and other community organizations and individuals. Donations are always welcome.
